What You Need to Know

Starting this year, sanctions are in place for non-compliance with regulations related to CO₂ reporting and reduction. Companies are required to invest in greener technologies and solutions, which increases business costs. They must also collaborate with suppliers who adhere to sustainability principles, potentially limiting material availability and driving up prices.

In systems like ETS, companies exceeding their emission limits must pay high fees for every ton of CO₂ emitted beyond the allocated quota. Failure to meet reporting obligations or falsifying emission data can result in fines, the amount of which depends on the severity of the violation.

Businesses that repeatedly violate emission regulations risk losing their licenses to operate in certain sectors. Companies failing to meet environmental standards may be excluded from grants, preferential loans, or tax incentives for energy transformation.

In cases of serious violations—such as deliberate emission concealment, report falsification, or actions causing severe environmental damage—responsible individuals may face criminal liability, including substantial fines or imprisonment, depending on the jurisdiction.

Non-compliant companies may also lose partnerships and clients, as many businesses now require strict sustainability adherence from their suppliers and collaborators.
